Canadian Network for Child and Youth Rehabilitation

This webinar presentation, from the Canadian Network for Child and Youth Rehab, includes a short overview of the ICF and its relevance to Paediatric Rehabilitation, and an outline of the work of Canadian Network of Child and Youth Rehabilitation in establishing a national minimum data set for children's rehab.

CN-CYR also welcomed Kevin Marks, from UDSfmr, to focus on the proposed enhancements to the WeeFIM and demonstrate the interface of the WeeFIM with the ICF-CY framework.

This information is relevant relevant to all child and youth health service providers, researchers and administrators that are interested in developing and using standardized data collection and benchmarking processes to improve their understanding of their patient population and to improve rehab service delivery.

Presenters Biographies

Shawna Wade

Shawna Wade is the Senior Director of the Child Development Program at Holland-Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. This program provides services to children with a range of developmental disabilities; including, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Spina Bifida, Neuromuscular Disorders and many other conditions that affect a child’s development.  She is the co-chair with Sandy Litman of the Outcomes and Benchmarking Committee for CN-CYR.

Sandy Litman

Sandy Litman, is the Director of the Paediatric Rehabilitation Division at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton.  She provides leadership and administrative oversight to the Division of Paediatric Rehabilitation which includes over 20 programs and services.  As well, she provides leadership too many regional steering committees and interagency committees in Alberta Sandy is the Hospital representative on the National steering committee for CN-CYR.

Dr. Johanna Darrah

Johanna Darrah has a background in physical therapy and for the past 15 years has been a professor in the department of physical therapy at the University of Alberta.  Her research interests are in the areas of motor development and the rehabilitation management of children with motor disabilities.

Kevin Gibson, MS OTR/L

Kevin Gibson, MS OTR/L, is co-manager of Education, Training and Consultation and Manager of the WeeFIM® product line at Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation in Buffalo, New York. At UDSmr, Kevin oversees the development of education and training presentations, documentation, and teaching tools for UDSmr subscribers. Kevin regularly presents workshops and seminars to subscribers and state associations alike.

Joelle Roberson, MS PT

Joelle Roberson, MS PT, is the WeeFIM coordinator at Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation in Buffalo, New York. At UDSMR, Joelle answers clinical questions for the WeeFIM® product line, educational tools, including but not limited to guides, power point presentations, case studies, frequently asked questions and other materials to be used by clinicians and/or physicians.
