3 3  Dr. McQuaid is a Scientist in the Culture and Gender Research Unit at The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR), affiliated with the University of Ottawa. She is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa and in the Department of Neuroscience at Carleton University. Dr. McQuaid’s research examines the impacts of stress and trauma on mental health, exploring how adverse experiences interact with biological factors, such as genetics and inflammation, to promote or buffer against depression and suicide behaviors. One aspect of her research program examines the intergenerational impacts of trauma on current health and wellness and resiliency among First Nations peoples in Canada. This work is done together with Dr. Amy Bombay, professor at Dalhousie University.
