Meeting The Challenge:  A Pediatric Virtual Emergency Department

This webinar will describe the new Pediatric Virtual Emergency Department at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) established during COVID-19. During the webinar, participants will learn:

  • Why did CHEO embark on this journey? 
  • How does the Virtual Care Model work for pediatric emergency care?
  • What are the challenges and outcomes?
  • What might the future hold for this model of care? 

Following this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the global impact of COVID-19 on the provision of emergency medicine
  • Outline a virtual model of care offered for pediatric emergency patients and families during the pandemic
  • Describe the potential impacts of a virtual emergency department and what the future may hold for this model of care

Sarah Reid .jpgSarah Reid, MD, FRCPC, completed her medical degree from the University of Ottawa, followed by a Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship at CHEO. She is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and a Clinical Investigator at the CHEO Research Institute. She is the Editor and Ontario Lead for Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids (www.trekk.ca) and serves on the Council of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Sandy headshot.jpgSandy Tse, MD, FRCPC, completed her medical degree from the University of Alberta follow by a Pediatric Residency in Edmonton and a Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship at CHEO.  She is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pediatric and Emergency medicine at the University of Ottawa and a Clinical Investigator at the CHEO Research Institute.  She is the Associate Medical Director for the Division of Emergency Medicine at CHEO, the Chair of the Accreditation Committee for the Postgraduate Medical Education Office, Faculty of Medicine, UOttawa and the Competency Based Medical Education Lead for the Department of Pediatrics.
